How do I defrost the food?

Updated over a week ago

Start by putting two days’ worth of food in the fridge right away so it’s ready when you need it. After that, just move another two days’ worth to the fridge every other day. This way, you’ll always have a thawed portion ready to go.

Best method: in the fridge

The safest and easiest way to thaw the food is in the refrigerator. Be sure to place the packs on a plate or in a bowl in case they leak. It usually takes about 24 hours per pound to defrost. Bigger packs might need up to two days.

Need it faster? Use cold water

If you’re in a rush, you can thaw the food in cold water. Keep it sealed in the pack, and change the water every 30 minutes to keep it cold. Plan for about 30 minutes per pound. For example, a 2 lb bag would be ready in about an hour.

Important: Never use warm or hot water to speed up the process. Food should never be left above 40°F, as this increases the risk of harmful bacteria.
