How we keep our food safe

At Rebel Raw, safe and nutritious food for your cat and dog is a responsibility we take seriously. From the ingredients we source to the way each batch is prepared in our kitchen, every step of our process is designed with safety, transparency, and quality in mind.

Safety starts with the ingredients we bring into our kitchen. We only use human-grade ingredients sourced from suppliers that provide USDA inspected and passed meats. We do not bring feed-grade ingredients into our facility. By maintaining this standard, we ensure the ingredients entering our kitchen meet the same quality expectations as food prepared for people.

One of the ways we help protect the safety of our food is through bacteriophaging. This natural process targets and eliminates specific harmful bacteria: Salmonella, E. coli, and Listeria, while maintaining beneficial bacteria and the nutritional quality of the food. Unlike harsh processing methods such as HPP or irradiation, bacteriophages work with nature, protecting the freshness and integrity of the ingredients.

Because Rebel Raw operates in a human food commercial kitchen, we follow the food safety standards expected of a human food facility. Our production processes follow Current Good Manufacturing Practices (CGMPs) and strict FDA guidelines for pet food manufacturing. In addition to these standards, we implement ongoing verification measures, including routine environmental monitoring and random batch testing for pathogens. These steps help confirm that our processes are working as intended and that the food we produce meets our safety and quality standards.

All Rebel Raw food is made in our company-owned, human food commercial kitchen in Atlanta. Since 2014, our founders, along with our small team, have been involved in every step of the process, from sourcing ingredients to grinding, packaging, and shipping. Nothing is outsourced, and we do not use co-packers. Keeping production fully in-house allows us to maintain strict quality control and consistent standards in every batch.

Food safety is something we think about every day. By combining careful ingredient sourcing, natural food safety technology, routine testing, and full control of our production process, we work hard to ensure the food we make for your pets is safe and nutritious. We believe in and are confident in the food safety procedures we follow. That confidence is reflected in our own homes. We feed our own cats and dogs first from every batch of food we make. Since we started Rebel Raw in 2014, we have never had a recall.
